Another week of magical holiday happenings, exciting performances, huge sporting events and the opening of one hotly anticipated new venue make this a big week in Philly.

It’s true! The long-shuttered Philadelphia Metropolitan Opera House reopens this week as The Met Philadelphia, ushering in a new era for the historic building on North Broad Street as a thriving live-entertainment venue. The opening night show — starring Bob Dylan and His Band — is unfortunately already sold out, but upcoming acts include John Legend, Weezer, Pentatonix, PnB Rock and John Oliver.

The 119th annual Army-Navy Game, one of the biggest sporting events of the year in Philly, takes place this week as well. Cadets, midshipmen, current service members, veterans and football fans flock to South Philadelphia to catch this storied sports rivalry at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday afternoon.

Also this week: Philadelphia celebrates Hanukkah with eight days of lively and light-filled get-togethers at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the National Museum of American Jewish History, Boathouse Row and Rittenhouse Square.

And the most wonderful time of the year rolls on with even more events celebrating the sights and sounds of the season, including the Parade of Lights at the Independence Seaport Museum, the opening of The Nutcracker at the Academy of Music and A Very Philly Christmas events at the Historic Houses of Fairmount Park.

Check out all of our picks for this week in Philly, below.
